Overlooking the Caribbean at the Waldorf Astoria Cancun

I was a recent guest of the Waldorf Astoria Cancun, and experienced there a rare level of comfort, service, and views. This is no Cancun party hotel, but a resort experience that focuses on the guest experience like few others. Last week, A+A interviewed André Aparício the Waldorf’s hotel manager, via email:

What is the overall concept for the resort?

At Waldorf Astoria Cancun, travelers have the rare opportunity to experience a treasured beauty that uniquely captures the essence of this special destination within every exquisite detail of our environments, service, and experiences. Our coveted resort—tucked away in an exclusive area away from the Hotel Zone—reflects a magnificent appreciation for the beauty of water, the brilliance of sunlight, and the connection to elements of nature all around our resort – bringing meaning and enchantment to every moment.

How does it compare to others in Cancun?

Our service approach based on emotional connections with the purpose of creating memories. Genuine, authentic, personalized, engaging, non-intrusive in a way that our guest´s feel cared and pampered like at home-  a refined haven.

The size of the property?

Our property is part of a complex and it lies over 100 acres of coastline.

The number of rooms and suites?

We have a total of 173 rooms and suites. 137 rooms and 36 suites including a Presidential Suite, a Swim-Up Master Corner Suite and Deluxe Ocean Front Suites.

The intended guest experience?

Personalized from the pre arrival to the post departure. Great food and beverage venues and experiences can cater to single guests, couples and/or families. A magnificent spa connected to the Mayan culture. Delightful pool and beach service and amenities with attention to detail, and a dedicated on-property leisure team that will craft experiences for adults, teens, and kids.

How do you describe the design?

Offering a unique and exquisite interpretation of Cancún’s natural wonders, our intriguing designs create an other-worldly sense of place where every element feels symbolic, every design tells a story, and every space has meaning. Our designs are an expression of our natural surroundings in meticulous, enchanting detail.

What’s unusual about its environment?

Waldorf Astoria Cancun is nestled within a mangrove nature preserve, 15-minutes from Cancún International Airport and 20 minutes south of Cancún’s Hotel Zone. Situated on 100 acres of coastline, the resort provides a secluded beachfront escape with panoramic ocean views. Nearby to the south of the resort is Puerto Morelos, a Mexican port town with original fishing village character, known for its protected reef and mangrove nature preserves.
