Quirky, Posh, Rustic and Exclusive

Yesterday, we introduced Welcome Beyond to A+A readers.  It’s a Berlin-based group that hand-picks places to stay around the globe.  Each is truly original. Some border on quirky, others are quite posh – and a few are downright rustic. But all are exclusive

Our interview with Chris Laugsch, co-founder of the firm, continues today:

Who are some of the architects and designers that are featured in the properties you represent?

Wespi de Meuron (architects) for Le Marche Villa

Ana Noguera (architect) for Alemanys 5

Christopher Chong (architect) and Seonaid Mackenzie (designer) for Torre di Moravola

Tham & Videgård Arkitekter, Cyrén &  Cyrén, Inredningsgruppen and Sandell Sandberg (architects) for the Treehotel

David Carter (interior designer) for 40 Winks

Nikki Fairchild (interior designer) for Maya

Nils Holger Moormann (furniture designer) for berge

Patrizio Fradiani (architect) for Casa dos Chicos and Podere Palazzo

Matali Crasset (designer) for Dar Hi

What are some of the more popular properties? Why?

Alemanys 5, Girona, Spain: The 16th century house was beautifully restored in a modern way while preserving a dialogue with the old. Guests like the minimal style of the interior but at the same time the whole place feels very warm and comfortable. It is a difficult balance to strike and it has been done with perfection.  http://www.welcomebeyond.com/property/alemanys-5/

Juvet Landscape Hotel, Valldal, Norway:  The reasons for its popularity are two things: great architecture and an amazing location. Unassuming at first, it is as if nature rushes in to greet you through the massive panoramic windows of the seven cubes scattered around the harsh Norwegian landscape. The interior is minimal and quite dark giving you the impression of being inside a camera with the window as the lens.  http://www.welcomebeyond.com/property/juvet-landscape-hotel/

Locanda al Colle, Camaiore, Italy:  Locanda al Colle has an eclectic mixture of 30s, 40s and 50s furniture within an old shell. Everything works really well together and with the four-poster beds it creates a very cozy atmosphere.  http://www.welcomebeyond.com/property/locanda-al-colle/

Monaci delle Terre Nere, Sicily, Italy:  Creator and charming host Guido Coffa spent five years rescuing the villa from despair investing every drop of his energy to create an intimate, relaxing and stylish home. The six rooms come with rare thoughtfulness and exquisite taste. An old wine press and fresco paintings shimmering through the ceilings are traces of the building’s past and are in perfect harmony with wonderfully eccentric paintings by British-Brazilian artist Olivier Mourao, modern furnishings by Flos or B&B Italia and the owner’s personal collection of antiques.  http://www.welcomebeyond.com/property/monaci-delle-terre-nere/
