In Hardware, Black Is the New Black

Black in hardware is back, says Adrienne Morea, owner and creative director of Atlas Homewares. She’s introduced a new black collection that includes knobs, pulls, towel bars, bath hooks and toilet paper holders –retailing from about $10 to $150. A+A recently interviewed her via email:

Where did you find inspiration for these designs?

My inspirations are multi-faceted and I never know when I’m going to see some little detail that inspires my decorative hardware, but my basic rule of thumb is: if it makes me look twice, I’m probably inspired.

Its intent?

It’s intended to make any kitchen, bathroom, or furniture piece just a little extra special. The matte black finish is both modern and sophisticated.

Materials?

They’re many and varied, but the metals used are brass, zinc, aluminum and iron. The crystal knobs and pulls, for example, are zinc-based metal with hand-cut, multi-faceted genuine crystal.

What’s different about these fixtures?

I’ve designed them, and they are proprietary.

What are you trying to achieve with the design?

To attract a market of like minded, architecturally-driven homeowners who have a point of view and want to own hardware that expresses that point of view?

Who is that target market?

Homeowners with exceptionally good taste.

When will they be available? Where?

They’re available now, and they can be purchased nationally at luxury kitchen and bath showrooms or at www.atlashomewares.com
