At New Ravenna, Glass and Stone Mosaics Inspired by the Seaside

Designed and created in New Ravenna’s Virginia studio in Exmore on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, Tidal is a new collection of mosaic tiles that features nine distinctive designs inspired by the beauty and movement of water. A+A recently interviewed New Ravenna’s Jacquelyn Bizzotto about the collection via email:

Who designed the new collection?

New Ravenna’s Lead Designers Cean Irminger and Jacquelyn Bizzotto

What brought about its inspiration?

Bizzotto: When developing Tidal, it was no coincidence that the shoreline became our shared source of inspiration – we are, after all, surrounded by water on three sides. Together, Cean Irminger and I created nine designs, each evoking a unique mood – from the delicate, continuous bubbles of Seabreeze to the vibrant, playful energy of La Mer. Tidal offers textures and tones for every sea-loving soul, bringing a touch of the coast into any space.

The design intent?

We wanted to offer these designs to capture some of the coastal inspiration we are seeing in the industry and also because we live on the coast, this one is close to home for us

How will they be used?
We see these patterns being used as walls and floors in all spaces of the home to include outdoors. Our La Mer panel would make a beautiful outdoor shower!

The material palette?
We used our complete palette of materials in this collection, to include natural stone, jewel glass, glazed basalto and serenity glass.

The color palette?
It was important to use traditional coastal colors like blues but we also wanted to showcase greens and tans to mimic what might be seen under water and to give options for a coastal space being highlighted in pattern and not just color.

The target market:
Certainly, the coast but any coastal lover!

Are the patterns primarily for residential use, or commercial as well?
They can certainly be used in both.
