A Chance to Grace the Pages of Dwell
With a circulation of 350,000 for its print edition, and monthly online page views tallying 3.3 million, Dwell magazine could be considered the journalistic Mecca for aspiring residential architects.
Its monthly “Houses We Love” feature alone may be the most coveted single page in the entire architecture press.
So when Dwell’s editors began to think about how to celebrate the magazine’s tenth anniversary, they turned to that page for inspiration. They’re soliciting entries now for a competition that will grant the winner a full page of editorial coverage in the October 2010 issue – a collector’s item for sure.
“We haven’t done anything of this nature before – this is our first open call for architects to submit actual projects,” said Amanda Dameron, digital content director at Dwell. “There will only be one submission queue seen by all the editors – and these are the same people looking to populate the rest of the magazine too.”
The editors will select their twenty favorite entries and post them on www.dwell.com for online voting. Deadline for entries is March 30. There’s a modest $25 entry fee that will enable each home to be judged by both editors and readers.
A People’s Choice Award will be given based on online voting from April 5 through June 27. Editors will select a Grand Prize winner from the finalists. Judging criteria will include aesthetics, originality and quality of images.
For a residential architect, it all adds up to what might be called the chance of a decade. “This is an amazing opportunity for architects to be seen by editors, peers and clients,” Amanda said.
